„Angst zwischen den Generationen“

Tue, 15. Jul 25Tue, 15. Jul 25

Anyone who is afraid is right. At least, you can’t deny anyone their own fear.
But fear has also become a quick formula that conceals a wide variety of experiences of threat.
Perhaps a look at generations of fear can help here. What distinguishes the fears of the postwar era from the fears of neoliberalism? And which afflictions of fear are characteristic of our present?
Generations also appear to differ in their fears, and at the same time, fears are passed on from generation to generation.
Heinz Bude uses his 2015 classic, “Society of Fear,” as a starting point for a conversation about fear between generations.

REPAIRWORKSHOP – SbyD-Kiosk

Thursday 20.02.25, 14.00 – 18.00

Thursday 20.02.25, 14.00 – 18.00

The Sustainability by Design (SbyD) team invites you to a walk-in workshop in the foyer for redesigning and repairing clothes as well as a demonstration repair of electrical appliances.

Bring an item of clothing that you no longer wear because you no longer like it, it has stains or holes or because you have simply forgotten about it. We have numerous patches made from a wide variety of old textiles that you can use to give your clothes a striking makeover or subtly repair them. You can come to the foyer of the Kunsthalle Barmen between 2 and 6 p.m. and we will help you turn your unloved item into a piece of clothing that you will love to wear again.

Alternatively, look over our shoulders as we examine faulty electrical appliances. You are also welcome to bring along a faulty appliance and we will try to identify the fault together. Talk to us about e-waste and wasting resources as well as strategies for avoiding them and feel free to pick up a soldering tool yourself!

The workshop is organized by SPACE FOR SUSTAINABILITY BY DESIGN – an innovative university project of the Folkwang University of the Arts, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Joint Science Conference.

Kochen, ein Transformationsprozess: Milch, Eier, Mehl & Pilze – Alles, was Arbeit macht

Workshop with Arpad Dobriban

Saturday 08.02.25, 15 – 18:00 h

Cooking, a transformation process:
Milk, eggs, flour & mushrooms – everything that makes work

Workshop with the artist Arpad Dobriban

The workshop is dedicated to the transformative potential of the basic ingredients milk, eggs and flour, which, as central design materials of Central European cuisine, are particularly significant for cooking due to their countless processing and combination variations. They are evidence of the inventiveness of many generations.

By preparing selected dishes, the act of cooking – as a practice of transformation – is brought to life. Together with the participants, selected dishes will be prepared in order to practically comprehend the cultural significance and the creative act of this transformation. Mushrooms that grow, are harvested and dried in the Kunsthalle will be used in the preparation process.

No previous knowledge is required, just a willingness to immerse yourself in the material.
